From 15 to 17 November this year, Sri Lanka will host the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The choice of each CHOGM venue is a collective decision taken by Commonwealth leaders.
At the 2007 CHOGM in Kampala, Uganda, Heads took note of the offer from the President of Sri Lanka for his country to host CHOGM.
Many critics have been arguing that Sri Lankashould not be the venue as it has not been able to safeguard the values of the commonwealth.
Not been able to fully implement the Lessons Learned and Reconciliation Commission findings as well as removing the former chief justice Shirani Bandaranayaka without due process have been most frequently sited resons by the critiques who have proposed a shift of venue.
