Sri lankan Politicians High on Spirits


tartling revelations have now come to the fore as to how the Preventive Division of Sri Lanka Customs had released the two controversial containers that carried ethanol spirit allegedly imported by powerful government politicians after taking a bribe of Rs.10 million.

Six Customs officers attached to the Preventive Division including a Director of Customs, Superintendent of Customs and Assistant Superintendent of Customs are accused of allegedly bribed by these politicians.

Amongst the accused politicians that were continuously involved importing ethanol spirit to the country although it has been barred since February 28 were the Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody, Cooperative and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando, Public Relations and Public Affairs Minister Mervyn Silva, Puttalam District MP Arundika Fernando, Matale District MP Wasantha Lakshman Perera and businessman Mahinda Ramanayake.
