The lack of a proper mechanism to determine the exact cost per unit of power and a tariff revision mechanism have resulted in the current issue over electricity tariff hike, said the former Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
He added that successive governments have failed to address these issues.
Addressing the media in Colombo yesterday Ranawaka said that it is vital to conduct a technical audit in order to ascertain the exact cost of power generation, as the private power suppliers are currently providing electricity to the CEB at their own prices.
He said that irrespective of who is in power the electricity issue has not been solved, due to the lack of a proper mechanism to determine the exact cost per unit of power. In order to figure out where the losses are taking place, hydro power generation, thermal and renewable energy should all be individually evaluated.
