Parliamentarian Duminda Silva has been reappointed as the organizer for the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in the Kolonnawa electorate.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa was appointed as the SLFP organizer in the Kolonnawa electorate after the Mulleriyawa shooting incident in October 2011 in which Silva was seriously injured.
However now that Silva has recovered and is out on bail he has been given back the SLFP Kolonnawa organizer’s post.
When contacted by The Sunday Leader, Kolonnawa Urban Council Chairman Ravindra Udeshantha said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa spoke to him and instructed him to give Silva the backing he needs as he has now been reappointed as the SLFP organizer of the area.
Udeshantha added that no matter what opinions one may have in the party, if the President gives instructions then that is followed to the letter.
When contacted by The Sunday Leader, Duminda Silva’s Coordinating Secretary A. Hewavitharana confirmed that the MP had been given back the Kolonnawa post. He also said that a decision has not yet been taken as to when he will return to parliament.
Hirunika Steps Down From Politics
Meanwhile Hirunika Premachandra has decided to temporarily step down from politics on the basis that the political climate is not favorable for her.
Premachandra, the daughter of slain politician Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, said that she also needs proper backing to get fully engaged in politics.
Hirunika Premachandra is currently studying law and she says once her law exams are over she will decide on her next step.
“It is hard to do politics in Sri Lanka. I have spoken to my family and I will decide about my political future at the right time,” she said.
She also expressed confidence in the judiciary to get justice for the murder of her father. COURTESY:THE SUNDAY LEADER
