Sri Lanka Probes Fredric Newman Foundation

law-main_900x300The police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is investigating the activities of a leading German funded NGO operating in Sri Lanka.

A statement by the police media unit said that the Fredric Newman Foundation is being investigated to see if it had gone beyond its legal limitations in it’s Sri Lankan operations.

The police said that a statement had been recorded from Ms. Sagarika Delgado, a local representative of the NGO.

The investigations comes following reports that the NGO had conducted a workshop for the opposition UNP recently.

While condemning certain media reports labeling UNP MPs as traitors for cooperating with Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), the UNP said earlier today that members in the government had also closely worked with the foundation.

“The foundation had organised events and workshops for both the government and the opposition politicians. Even Keheliya Rambukwella and Mahinda Samarasinghe had participated at FNF organised events,” UNP MP Ruwan Wijewardena told a news conference
