by Dasun Edirisinghe-An investigation has been launched into allegations that a teacher at a girls’ school, in the Matale town lured several students into prostitution.
The investigation was launched by the Child Development and Women’s Welfare Ministry along with National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), following the revelation by a Pradeshiya Sabha member that a girl had become pregnant after taking to prostitution.
The NCPA had already launched investigations through the Police Children’s and Women’s Bureau, into the allegation, Child Development and Women’s Welfare Minister Tissa Karaliyadde said. This was confirmed by NCPA Chairperson Anoma Dissanayake.
A Matale District Pradeshiya Sabha member had informed the Matale District Coordinating Committee meeting recently that a teacher of a leading girls’ school had lured students into prostitution and a student had got pregnant due to that.
