Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena last week claimed that he had to perform his duties while being surrounded by multinational milk food companies, drug companies, tobacco companies and some corrupt officials in his Ministry.
The multinational companies were only interested in profit maximization, he said adding that the products they sold could be hazardous., but the companies were money-motivated.
Speaking at a function to Cap Nurses at the Kurunegala Nursing Training School, Minister Sirisena said he had found that some officials in the Health Ministry were big bribe takers.
He pointed out that it was difficult to provide a better service with such corrupt officials.
The government, he said, was making every effort to save the public from multinational companies, but some officials in the Ministry were lining their pockets.- The island
