Bollywood beauty Jacqueline Fernandez took part in an initiative marking the safety of women in Mumbai called ‘Are We Safe?’ on Sunday evening. The event was held at a residential complex in the suburbs.
“Awareness is extremely important. It leads to education for all. I have come here as a woman, not to preach but to know. I want to be better informed and aware,” Jacqueline said at the event, held in the wake of the recent gang-rape in the city.
The former Miss Sri Lanka turned up in a back-to-school wardrobe teamed with loafer pumps. Jacqueline’s charms were not enhanced by the ensemble, which was a change from her usual glamorous style. Her focus rather seemed to be on the interactive session and what was being discussed.
“I am happy to know the kind of work that the Mumbai police is doing to ensure our safety. I feel safer. I know now what to do to protect myself with all the important numbers,” she said, adding that every woman should be aware of the emergency helpline number the police have given, 103.
Jacqueline’s co-panellists were additional commissioner of police Vishwas Nangre Patil, social activist Gurpreet Kaur Chadha and trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
‘Are We Safe?’ saw an open interaction between the panellists and the audience.
Recalling an incident, Jacqueline said: “We had two girls present who spoke about their train journey where they were eve-teased and touched.
“It is important for all to know that CCTVs are being installed at railway stations. This is another step to help women’s safety.”
Stressing the need for women to feel secure, she said: “Women need to feel protected in the city. Our safety is a priority for the police.”
On the professional front, Jacqueline returned with a bang with her ultra-glamorous role in Race 2.
She was last seen in the item number Jadoo ki jhappi in Ramaiya Vastavaiya. However, the dance act did not create much impact.
Coming up for the actor is Salman Khan co-starrer Kick.
She also has a new film called Roy where she has a double role, which features Ranbir Kapoor in a cameo.
